The Story Behind Good as Gold Tours
Our Journey to the Goldfields
Good as Gold Tours was born from a deep love of one of Australia’s most extraordinary regions. Founded by longtime Kalgoorlie residents Allison Golsby and Carl Nunan, their story began eleven years ago when what started as a work project became a life-changing discovery.
Allison originally called Brisbane home before her adventures took her across the globe – living and working in New Zealand, India, Colorado, USA, among others. When a mining project brought her to Kalgoorlie to help extend the mine life of KCGM (Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines), neither she nor Carl expected to fall so completely under the spell of the Goldfields.
Why We Stayed
What began as a professional assignment quickly became something much deeper. Carl and Allison chose to make Kalgoorlie their permanent home, drawn by the incredible community spirit, the remarkable biodiversity (did you know Kalgoorlie has more plant and animal diversity than anywhere else in Australia?), and the raw, majestic beauty of the region.
There’s something magical about the red soil stretching to the horizon, the ethereal beauty of ancient salt lakes, and the stories embedded in every corner of this historic landscape. We became captivated by the heritage, the unique character, and the enduring spirit of resilience and adventure that defines the Goldfields.
